Book About Dragons - Dragon Historia

More than 400 years ago, dragons were the rulers of the lands and human were considered to being merely a food source for them. One day a dragon proposed a truce between them, believing both species could live in harmony. This soon led to a civil war between both factions: the pro-humans and their opposite. Eventually, some humans were taught Dragon Slayer Magic and were requested to join the war and the tide of the war soon changed in the pro-humans' favour. However, an error was overlooked and the dragons of both sides of the war were soon being killed by their own Dragon Slayers. In one case, a human Dragon Slayer killed many dragons, both enemy and ally alike, and bathed in their blood, an event that would later be called the Festival of Dragon King. This act, along with the aid of Zeref the Dark Mage, would result in him to become Acnologia the Black Dragon, and later on the Dragon King himself. All other facts and stories about dragons were collected in one book called Dragon Historia. One of the stories listed there tells the story of a dragon who supposedly destroyed an entire country by itself.

On July 7, X777, all of the dragons disappeared one day and went to an unidentified, uninhabited region for unknown reasons.

Strength and Intelligence

They are extremely powerful creatures, so powerful that a form of Magic had to be created to combat them. Even Gildarts, who was considered to be the most powerful Mage in Fairy Tail under Makarov and later the candidate for the next Fairy Tail's master, was defeated by Acnologia, and he claimed that no human could defeat Acnologia, further evidenced when all the Mages participating in the S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial on Tenrou Island fought it, but were soundly defeated, with Gildarts claiming that it was just playing with them.
From what Wendy has said, dragons are extremely intelligent. They are able to speak the language of humans and can thus impart their knowledge and communicate with them. Some, however, do not seem to be satisfied with the fact of having to make contact with the race, which they consider to be inferior, and ignore them all together. Some dragons even considered humans to being merely one of their food sources. In such a situation at all would not go into discussion with people and show a quite remarkable ignorance pointing in their direction.

To the events of the year X784, society does not believe in the existence of dragons. However, the destruction of Tenrou Island caused by one of them, called Acnologia, changed their view on this issue.
Despite their destructive nature, some dragons, such as Igneel, Grandeeney, and Metalicana have been said to care for humans to the point where they raise orphaned human children as their own. While raising the human, they teach them Dragon Slayer Magic to make the human more like them.
The situation is somewhat different for other dragons such as Acnologia, who views humans as nothing more than mere insects, and Zealconis, who hates humans and views the races merely as a food source. In contrast to the others, Acnologia did not obey the will of the Dragon King and didn't leave the world of humans when instructed. Though, later on, it would be revealed that the reason for doing so was because Acnologia was in fact the Dragon King. Gildarts described the evil dragon as "the enemy of humanity", as confirmed by his subsequent behavior, when without warning and any particularly reason appeared on Tenrou Island and later tried to destroy it.
